Retrieval of Ocean Parameter using Genetic Algorithm

چکیده

Evolutionary computing techniques were used to understand and model the time series observations of environmental parameters recorded by buoys on the ocean surface. The environmental parameters such as sea surface temperature, air temperature and surface wave height etc. are important in understanding the ocean characteristics and any suitable model that can forecast or predict the trend to any extent will be a great aid. Moreover, these time series data invariably contain various gaps due to variety of reasons ranging from instrument failures to loss of information due to human interference. DARWIN, an efficient genetic algorithm program developed by Alvarez et al, based on the algorithm developed by Szpiro was used for the present study. This program was used for analysis and understanding the applicability of Genetic Algorithms to approximate the behavior of time series of various environmental parameters and hence help in filling data gaps in wave data having applications in routine wave forecast.
